Yesterday we were lucky enough to enjoy a fantastic tour from the Estorick Collection around their new exhibition on Italian photographer Giorgio Casali. With an expert on hand to show us round we learnt a lot about the iconic photographer – from his playfulness with light and dark, to weight and design.

With a beautiful collection of Casali’s photographs, as well as magazine covers from the famous style magazine Domus, to furniture from the time including a book shaped chair and iconic lamp this exhibition gave a real flavour of 1960s/70s Italy – and the legacy of the style and innovation it left in its wake.

Our group had a brilliant time, enjoying the accessible and friendly tour and viewing the works on display. We even got to soak up some sunshine in the café garden afterwards. A perfect morning.

One attendee said:

I’d often walked past the Estorick Collection museum but had never visited it so I was keen to join the group yesterday.  It was very helpful to have an introduction to the exhibition which helped me to understand the works on display and made the visit interesting and enjoyable.  The café and garden area were pleasant to sit in and  have a coffee.

This morning local art gallery the Estorick Collection opened their doors for our clients on a private tour lead by their Education Officer Ruth. The recent exhibition featured a range of etchings, sketches and paintings by Italian artist Georgio Morandi. The tour was insightful and fascinating, prompting one attendee to say:

Ruth’s tour was great and I now feel I could write an essay or two on Italian etchings!

See Morandi’s work for yourself here.

Local gallery the Estorick Collection have offered us a tour of their latest exhibition by Italian artist Giorgio Morandi on Monday 4th February at 11am. Meet there at 10.45am for your culture fix!
