This weekend we were joined again by Mildmay Park residents at King Henry’s Walk Garden for a special talk about pond life from one of the ‘Friends of the Garden’ Pete.

Angi and her husband Steve brought the talk alive by handing out identification cards of pond life as well as photos and some real specimens scooped out of the pond just moments before!

We were all able to get a good look at the newts, water snails and water boatmen as well as some plant species at Pete told us about the habitat of a pond and shared some tips on how to make one (it has to have sloping side for newts and other amphibians to get out onto the land – otherwise they drown!). There is much more to it than digging a hole and filling it with tap water!

We also got the chance to see the Islington Giving container coming along nicely, with herds, onions, garlic and pansies growing well. Everyone took home a little bit of mint for a warming mint tea. Yum!

Last Saturday we were joined by residents from Mildmay Park to enjoy some cake decorating at King Henry’s Walk Garden. Taking shelter from the wintery weather in the kitchen glitter, gems, flowers and an array of icing were embraced by all as everyone iced their own cake – to eat or take home (if you could resist…).

This weekend we enjoyed a fantastic beer-tasting session at King Henry’s Walk Garden – as well as the first glimpses of spring sunshine! The resident expert beer-brewer and real ale enthusiast sampled the first taste of our version of a London bitter – it was very good! Everyone got a bottle to take home too.

Last Sunday real ale enthusiast Andy Parkinson led a beer-tasting and brewing session at King Henry’s Walk Garden. One Get Together attendee said he thoroughly enjoyed it and actually knew quite a bit about it already. When asked if he brewed his own beer he said:

No! Not the brewing it – the drinking it!

Thank you King Henry’s Walk Garden for another lovely afternoon. This Saturday 9th February join us for more fun in the garden as we plant the Islington Giving and Age UK Islington container.
